Israeli authorities announced on Sunday that three Israeli citizens died in a shooting at the border between the occupied West Bank and Jordan.
The IAA, which operates the border terminal at the Allenby Crossing alongside Jordan, the terrorist shot dead three employees who worked at the crossing before being terminated by a security officer, according to Alex Chen, the crossing’s manager.
Israelis cannot use the bridge primarily used by Palestinians and foreigners.
According to the IDF, a terrorist approached the Allenby Bridge from Jordan in a truck, left the vehicle, and opened fire on Israeli security troops stationed there.
The Israel Defense Forces reported that three civilians of Israel died in the incident, and they shot dead the perpetrator. They also released a photo of the handgun they claimed the attacker used.
Israeli police reported numerous casualties at the location and stated that they had eliminated the shooter.
According to Jordanian authorities, a preliminary investigation identified the suspect as Maher Diab Hussein Al-Jazi, a Jordanian citizen from Al-Hussainiya in the Maan governorate, south of Amman.
The Jordanian Ministry of Interior stated that Al-Jazi acted alone and had driven over the crossing in a vehicle transporting commercial products from Jordan to the West Bank. It stated that numerous officials were now coordinating the repatriation of Al-Jazi’s body for burial in Jordan.
Shady Al-Jazi, the alleged gunman’s brother, claimed his family was stunned by the news, which they received on satellite television. He stated that his brother’s rage about Israel’s attack on Hamas in Gaza may have been a motivating factor.
Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Jordanian government condemn the shooting.
The Jordanian ministry hinted at a relationship between extremism and Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, urging for steps to address the core causes and reduce tensions while also mentioning their efforts to negotiate a truce in Gaza.
The event occurred nearly two weeks after Israel’s military started one of its most extensive operations in the West Bank in years, conducting raids, demolishing roadways, and unleashing airstrikes in various sections of the occupied territories.
