New Gears of War Game Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Microsoft announces Gears of War: E-Day and has Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago returning in this prequel.

Microsoft officially confirmed the new entry in the series, Gears of War: E-Day, during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The trailer revealed Gears of War: E-Day as a prequel to the first Gears of War game, released in 2006 and has Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as the prime characters.

This is the biggest Xbox reveal so far, and fans are excited to see the unexpected twist in the series—it’s set 14 years before the first Gears of War game and goes in the opposite direction on the timeline.

Referring to Emergence Day in the storyline, the Gears of War: E-Day trailer shows a young Marcus Fenix combating a Locust Drone and managing to blow out its brains in the end. We can also see Dom Santiago helping and pulling him up. The duo looks out at the distance, and the situation turns violent during Emergence Day.

Emergence Day is when the Locusts emerged from beneath the Earth and called for war with humanity. Since the game takes place 14 years before the original story, the weapons will also have their earlier versions.

According to Microsoft, Gears of War E Day is built using Unreal Engine 5 and will be launched exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Though officially confirmed, a release date has not yet been announced for the game.
