Mariah Carey Loses Her Mom And Sister To Death On The Same Day

The Grammy-winning singer Mariah Carey’s mother and sister both died on the same day over this past weekend.

Carey shared a statement confirming the news saying that her heart is shattered because she lost her mom this past weekend and sadly due to a tragic turn of event her sister, Alison too lost her life the very same day. Carey also said that she considers herself fortunate because she was able to spend the last week with her mother, Patricia before she passed away.

The singer also concluded by saying that she was grateful for the love, support and respect showed by everyone for her privacy during this challenging time. The cause of their death is not revealed until now. In her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she mentioned about the relationship with her mother. She also wrote that, just like other parts of her life, Carey and her mom shared a life full of contradictions and competing realities. It has never been only black and white – it has been a whole rainbow of emotions.

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother.” she continued.

Carey also dedicated a part of her memoir to her mother Patricia, even after referring her relationship with her mother as a “complicated love.” She also wrote “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could,” Carey wrote. “I will love you the best I can, always.”

Carey’s relationship with her elder sister Alison Carey was a complex one. In her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”, she wrote of being alienated from her sister and her brother Morgan, saying that it was “emotionally and physically safer for me to not have any contact”.
