Google Requests FTC Review of Microsoft’s Cloud Agreement with OpenAI

Google OpenAI

Google has urged the U.S. government to intervene in Microsoft’s exclusive cloud agreement with OpenAI. This appeal comes after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) began questioning Microsoft’s business practices during its ongoing investigation, according to a source involved in the discussions.

The report shares that cloud competitors of Microsoft, such as Google and Amazon, are planning to provide OpenAI’s models right on their own servers. This way, their customers won’t have to rely on Microsoft’s setup, making things a bit easier for everyone!

The report indicates that companies using OpenAI’s technology through Microsoft may face additional fees if their operations are not already hosted on Microsoft’s servers. Google and other competitors have expressed concerns that these extra costs could negatively affect customers. As of now, Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and the FTC did not provide immediate responses to Reuters’ inquiries.
