Quan, whose birth name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has departed early Thursday afternoon at an Atlanta hospital. FCME Office confirmed his death. The cause of demise was not immediately known, and an autopsy was scheduled for Friday, September 6. Quan in 2011 began rapping and attained mainstream fame through the trap single “Type of Way” in 2013. The song was so popular that other rappers, like Jeezy and Meek Mill, hopped on the remix. He kept his momentum going, performing on a YG single with Jeezy and releasing the London on da single-produced song “Lifestyle” via his Rich Gang rap collective, which included Young Thug and Birdman.
His hit single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” in 2015. a song composed by DJ Spinz and Nitti Beatz. It became his top charting solo single at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also featured on Lil Dicky’s burgeoning “$ave Dat Money.”
He was selected for numerous BET Hip Hop awards, plus Best New Artist and Best Club Banger, in 2014 and 2015. He was also chosen for the iHeartRadio Music Awards’ Hip-Hop Song of the Year in 2016.
He also involved Young Thug on the Cash Money Records project, “Rich Gang,” and often banded with rappers 2 Chainz and Jacquees.
In 2018, Quan launched his first and only studio album, “Rich as in Spirit,” which basically went without any features except “Think About It,” a single with Rick Ross.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar was born in Atlanta, the oldest of three siblings, and played baseball at Ronald McNair Sr. High School with the goal of one day playing professionally. He briefly attended Fort Valley State University before supposedly dropping out due to financial reasons.
Rich Homie Quan’s father, Corey Lamar, was shot in his barbershop, in 2014.
In 2022 Quan discusses returning to music after a hiatus. At the time, the rapper stated that he was in lawsuit with indie label T.I.G. but he was ready to make a resurgence.
During that time, Quan became involved in a feud with his old friend Young Thug, who, along with rapper Gunna, was accused on charges of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act as well as participating in a violent street gang.
