At The DNC, Vice President Kamala Harris Gives Her Acceptance Speech

Vice President Kamala Harris

On Thursday, at the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris utilized her acceptance speech to present herself as an efficient leader capable of uniting all Americans behind a “new way forward” and to portray her Republican opponent as a threatening and nonchalant man whose reign would change the underpinnings of American democracy.

Ms. Harris gave her address for nearly 40 minutes, warning US citizens about the aggressive behavior of the former president, underlying a serious and considerable threat to their seeking access to reproductive health care, worrying about the stability of diplomatic relationships, and the southern border crisis.

Speaking to thousands of fans at Chicago’s United Center, Harris said that her campaign was not what her party had hoped for just a few weeks before. But she told the audience that she was no stranger to unusual trips, portraying herself as the daughter of an Indian scientist whose hopes of a new life in the United States inspired Ms. Harris’ legal and political careers. Her mother, she remarked cynically, trained her never to do anything halfway.

She is the first black woman and the first descendant of a South Asian to accept a democratic nomination. If Harris beats her rival, she would be the first female president in the United States’ history, which would be a barrier-breaking incident.

Ms. Harris, a 59-year-old candidate for the presidential election, what distinguishes her from Mr. Biden is not her policies but her being a woman who gets the attention and applause of the audience and vowed to shove her party forward. On Thursday, she opened up about her proposed initiatives that would address housing affordability, which amount to a gradual change from those put forth by President Biden.

In contrast to Trump’s whim-based decisions and coddling of foreign autocrats while claiming to be prepared to manage the Gaza problem that had drained POTUS Biden’s popularity, Kamala Harris’ speech on foreign policy was the most thorough she has given as a presidential hopeful. She portrayed herself as a thoughtful and decisive leader and supporter of established alliances.

For Decorates, past Biden’s race was ungraceful, though in recent weeks the presidential campaign of Harris has been satisfying and rejuvenating hope as she garnered support among young people, black voters, and women, all of whom are critical to the party’s victory in November. And, with rousing ovation after a stirring speech at the convention this week, Democratic Party members expressed their optimism about her chances in the coming months. Several party leaders, including President Barack Obama, have signaled that Ms. Harris and her running companion, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will have support on the campaign road.
