Doherty Shannen began her career as a 11-year-old child artist in the series Little House on the Prairie. She made a career breakthrough in Beverly Hills, 90210 with her role Brenda Walsh and also gained more reputation in her “Charmed” series, which also starred Alyssa Milano. The feud between the two co-stars arose when Doherty accused Milano of playing a huge part in getting her fired after season 3. Despite the years long feud, Milano paid tribute to her co-star Shannen, who died on July 13, 2024.
Milano stated that though she and Shannen shared a complicated relationship she always had a huge respect for Doherty and the world is less without her.
Doherty was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and after undergoing several sessions of chemotherapy she was free from it 2017. But its recurrence happened in 2020 which was later revealed to the world through an interview with Good Morning America. In that interview she talks about the return of her metastatic stage 4 cancer. In June 2023, Doherty announced that cancer had pervaded to her brain and then spread to her bones.
Even after being diagnosed with cancer, Doherty continued to stay busy by concentrating more on her work. She even hosted her own podcast “Let’s be clear”. One of the recent episodes of Doherty’s podcast in December, reignited the animosity between her and Milano. Milano denied the acquisition’s stating “I did not have the power to get anyone fired,” through her Instagram in February.
On Saturday 13 July, Doherty embraced her death. Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement to NBC News, “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
