President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will continue to use Starlink satellite internet services at the White House despite his recent decision to sever ties with Elon Musk. Trump told reporters that while he might consider moving his Tesla vehicle, Starlink, a high-speed broadband service provided by Musk’s SpaceX, will remain due to its reliability.
In March, Trump purchased a red Tesla Model S from Musk, and the two had previously maintained a close relationship. However, a recent public dispute between them has raised questions about the vehicle’s future at the White House, although it was seen there over the weekend.
On Monday, Trump made it clear that he is not interested in reconciling with Musk, though he did extend his good wishes. Musk responded to Trump’s statement with a heart emoji on X. The tension escalated last week when Musk openly criticized Trump’s tax and spending legislation, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
This public dissent has created challenges for Republican efforts to pass Trump’s proposed “big, beautiful bill” in Congress, where the party holds narrow majorities in both chambers. The dispute began last Thursday, during which Musk deleted several critical social media posts about Trump, including one suggesting presidential impeachment.
However, sources close to Musk indicate that his anger may be subsiding, leading them to believe that he might be open to reconciliation with Trump.
