Former President Donald Trump appeared in public for the first time since Sunday’s second assassination attempt against him. Holding an event at the Michigan Town Hall, among the massive crowds who chanted ‘God bless Trump’, he said, “It’s been a great experience.” He also described running for President as risky, like racing cars or riding bulls. He also added that “Only consequential Presidents get shot at”.
The Vice President, Kamala Harris, adopted a more balanced approach, avoiding mentioning Mr. Trump by name in an interview with black journalists earlier in the day. She also said that she had already conveyed to Mr. Trump that there’s no place for political violence in our country.
It was during a phone call that the two candidates set aside their differences. Mr. Trump described the call as “very, very nice” and mentioned Ms. Harris by her first name when talking to the crowds.
There are no changes to Mr. Trump’s calendar despite Sunday’s assassination attempt, and the campaigning is gaining momentum. Ms. Harris was taking a more subdued approach after the latest event.
Mr. Trump has appearances in New York, Washington, D.C., and North Carolina later in the week, whereas Ms. Harris plans to visit Washington, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
