American President Joe Biden warned that failure to have a ceasefire in Gaza before the holy month could be dangerous to both sides as they publicly remain firm in their positions. The third round of negotiations in Cairo ended with no positive results.
Before leaving for the White House from Maryland, Biden said, “Israel has been cooperating with the peace talks, and it’s now in the hands of Hamas right now to strike a deal before the start of Muslim’s Holy Month. If the current scenario continues, it could be very very dangerous to both sides. We’re trying hard for the ceasefire.”
The US Officials have been pushing for a six-week ceasefire that would result in the release of some hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Moreover, it can pave the way for expediting humanitarian activities in Gaza. The Hamas leaders are already insisting on a permanent end to the war and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
Reacting to this statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has outrightly rejected Hamas’ demands and is determined to hunt down the militants in Rafah, where over 1.4 Palestinians are residing.
As the situation in Gaza remains critical, US Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed deep concerns about the humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and the United Nations has warned of a famine situation in the Palestinian territory.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Government has said that it would allow Muslims to worship at Al-Aqsa during Ramadan in similar numbers to those in previous years. The war, which was started by Hamas in October 2023, has resulted in 1160 deaths in Israel, and Israel retaliatory offensive has killed more than 30,700 people, in which most of them are women and children.
